Why is Chicago called Chi-Town?

Chi-Town is a slang term for Chicago. It incorporates the first syllable of the city and is used by truckers via citizens band radio when discussing the city.

The Chi-Town moniker spread outside of CB radio conversations, thanks in part to a 1975 country album called "Black Bear Road." The album, by C. W. McCall, contained a song called "Convoy," which included lyrics about driving through Chi-Town, or Chicago. Other popular nicknames for Chicago include The Windy City, Second City and Chicagoland. Chicagoland actually refers to the city itself along with its suburbs, and at times it even includes all nine counties surrounding the city.
