What is a Chinese chestnut tree?

The Chinese chestnut tree is a nut tree that grows to be 40 to 60 feet tall. The tree grows at a slow to medium rate and does well in full sun.
The Chinese chestnut tree grows in dry, acidic, sandy or clay soil, but it does not grow well in alkaline soil. It produces cream or white flowers that turn into edible chestnuts. Chinese chestnut trees have brown ridged bark and medium to dark green leaves. The leaves grow 3 to 6 inches long. Chinese chestnut trees may become infested with acorn moths, filbert worms, armored scales, foliage-feeding caterpillars and white flies. They are vulnerable to chestnut blight, collar and crown rot.
