Chinese women often dress conservatively and casually in their daily activities. During traditional festivals or banquets, their dress is more formal. Younger girls choose to dress semiformal, while middle-aged women often dress up.
Chinese women often wear skirts or cheongsam, which is a silk, traditional Chinese dress with a fitted waist and a mandarin collar. The original cheongsam covered much of the body and was loose fitting. Today, two styles exist: Shanghai and Beijing. Shanghai style shows off one’s figure, while Beijing style relies on long-established patterns and colors. Bright colors are favored in China. Red is one of the more popular colors because it’s thought to bring luck and good fortune.
