Some common chrysanthemum varieties are anemones, pompons, reflexes and spoons. There are 13 classes of chrysanthemums, based on the shape of their blooms, petal lengths and other factors.
Chrysanthemums blooms are made up of hundreds of flowers called florets. The organization and shape of the florets determine to which variety a chrysanthemum belongs. The first six classes are made up of the blooms that are more round in shape. Classes seven through 13 are characterized by more traditional flower shapes, with florets that run outward from the center of the bloom. Additional differences between common varieties are results of varying color, plant height, floret type and bloom size.
