What is the clarinet made out of?

Clarinets are made of wood. The type of wood used is typically grenadilla wood, which is hard and black. This type of wood takes on a very high shine and is found in Africa, Asia or South America.

The main body of the clarinet is a cylindrical tube broken into two sections. The cork lines the sections to make an airtight seal when the pieces of the instrument are assembled. The bell of the clarinet flares more than the bell on an oboe. The mouthpiece uses a reed to produce the sounds of the clarinet. The sounds are produced through the vibrations of the reed.
