How do you clean a brush?

To clean a brush, loosen the hair from the bottom of the brush, cut the hair and pull it out, apply a cleaning solution made with water, shampoo and baking soda, and rinse the brush. Clean hair brushes once a week using this process.
- Loosen the hair from the bottom of the brush
Use the end of the rat-tail comb, a pen or a pick to get between the hair and the brush pad. Loosen the hair from the bottom of the brush, working your way up.
- Cut the hair and pull it out of the brush
Cut down the middle of the hair with scissors. Pull out the clumps of hair, and throw them away.
- Create a cleaning solution
Combine 1 cup of water with 1 teaspoon of shampoo and 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a bowl.
- Apply the cleaning solution to the brush
Dip a toothbrush into the cleaning solution, and gently apply it to the bristles and bristle pad of the hairbrush. Clean the outer edge of the brush as well as each bristle, starting at the bottom and brushing in an upward motion.
- Rinse the brush
Thoroughly rinse the brush, and lay the brush flat with the bristles facing down to dry.
