How do you clean makeup brushes at home?

Clean your makeup brushes at home once a week to remove residue and bacteria. The easy cleaning process requires only shampoo and water.

1. Gather your supplies

   Gather shampoo and your makeup brushes near your kitchen or bathroom sink.

2. Rinse the brushes

   Rinse each large brush under cold water once at a time. Rinse smaller brushes together under cold water.

3. Apply shampoo to the brushes

   Choose one large brush, and apply two drops of shampoo directly to the bristles. Massage the brush gently with your fingers. Turn the brush downward and rub it into the palm of your hand. Repeat this process for each large makeup brush. Gather your small makeup brushes, and apply one drop of shampoo to the bristles of each brush. Gently massage the group of brushes with your fingertips. Turn the brushes downward and massage them into your palm.

4. Rinse the brushes

   Run cold water over each brush, gently massaging the bristles with your fingers. Do not pull on the bristles. Rinse each brush until soap suds no longer appear.

5. Remove excess water

   Gently squeeze each brush from base to tip to remove excess water. Pat each brush on a hand towel to remove more water. Fold the towel over the bristles of your brushes and gently press down.

6. Dry the makeup brushes

   Lay the makeup brushes on the hand towel to air dry. Your brushes are dry and ready for use within 24 hours.
