How do you clean a dryer vent?

The best method of cleaning out the dryer duct is to use a dryer vent cleaning brush kit and a vacuum with an upholstery attachment. By dismantling the ductwork, the vent can be completely cleared of lint.

Use the brush to clean the lint trap, and then vacuum the lint from the brush. After cleaning the trap, begin dismantling the ductwork, starting from the end closest to the dryer. Rotate the brush within each length of duct to clear it of lint, and then reassemble the ductwork and clear the outside exhaust discharge cap. If the dryer uses gas, make certain that the gas is off before cleaning.
