Proper cleaning and storage of false eyelashes helps prevent bacterial infection and eye irritation. Maintaining the lashes also allows them to retain their original shape and texture for longer periods of time. To clean lashes, you will need to wash your hands before removing the glue and washing the lashes.
- Prevent contamination
Always wash your hands with soap and warm water before handling your false eyelashes. This applies to placing, removing and cleansing the lashes. Also, clean your tweezers with rubbing alcohol.
- Remove makeup and glue
Grip the strip of lashes in one hand. With the other hand, use your tweezers to carefully remove clumps of mascara, makeup and eyelash adhesive that may have accumulated along the lash band. Place the lash strips on a paper towel.
- Apply cleanser to lash strips
Use a cotton-tipped applicator or spray bottle to apply a small amount of alcohol-containing lotion over the lashes. Gently pull a cotton-tipped applicator down the length of the eyelashes from the band to the tips. Makeup remover tends to leave an oily residue on the lashes.
- Store false lashes
Allow your false eyelashes to remain on the paper towel until dry, usually about five minutes. Return them to their original case, or store them in an airtight container. The original container is preferable because it helps the lashes conform to their intended shape without bending or losing their form.
