To clean a pizza stone, brush off food debris, wipe the stone with a nylon pad, rinse the stone, brush the stains with baking soda, rinse again, and dry the stone. This 20-minute process requires a cleaning brush, sandpaper, a nylon pad, baking soda, water, a toothbrush, a bowl and a towel.
- Remove food debris
Make sure the stone is room temperature, and set it on your work surface. Brush away food debris with a natural-bristle cleaning brush. If the stone has stubborn, baked-on debris, scour those areas with coarse sandpaper, and brush away the residue.
- Wipe the stone
Dip a nylon pad in water, wring it out, and rub it over the stone. Rinse the stone under running water.
- Treat stains with baking soda paste
Pour several tablespoons of baking soda into a small bowl, and add enough water to make a thick paste. Stir the mixture with a toothbrush, and brush it over the stains. Leave the paste on the stone for five minutes, and then rinse the stone.
- Dry the stone
Dry the stone with a towel, and lay the towel on your work surface. Set the stone on the towel, and leave it there for several hours before using it again.
