To clean vomit from carpet, remove the vomit with a dustpan, blot the carpet with paper towels, apply baking soda, vacuum the carpet, apply an enzymatic cleanser, let it dry, and vacuum. This one-hour process requires rubber cleaning gloves, a dustpan, paper towels, baking soda, a vacuum and enzymatic cleanser.
- Scoop up the vomit with a dustpan
Put on long rubber cleaning gloves. Remove as much vomit as possible by scraping it up with a dustpan. Blot the carpet with paper towels.
- Dehydrate the carpet with baking soda
Dust the carpet with a liberal amount of baking soda. Wait 15 minutes, and vacuum the carpet until no powder remains.
- Apply an enzymatic cleanser
Spray the carpet with an enzymatic cleanser until the stained area is saturated. Rub in the cleanser with folded paper towels. Blot the carpet with fresh paper towels, apply more cleanser, and blot again. Repeat this process until the stain and odor disappear.
- Dry the carpet
Let the carpet dry naturally, and then inspect it. If the stain is still visible, apply more enzymatic cleanser. Blot the stain with paper towels, and dry the carpet again.
- Vacuum the carpet
Feel the carpet to make sure it is completely dry. Vacuum the carpet thoroughly until the treated area matches the surrounding carpet.
