Clotted cream has a nutty, sweet flavor. Originally from southwest England, clotted cream is a thick cream that is cooked rather than whipped. It is also known as Devonshire cream and is used as a dessert, a topping on scones or an ingredient in baked goods.

Clotted cream is very rich; it has a minimum of 55 percent fat content, but most types have 64 percent fat. As of 2015, clotted cream is hard to find in American grocery stores because it has a short shelf life and does not export well. It is also very expensive in the United States.
