As of 2014, Uranus has an atmospheric temperature minimum of -224 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest planet in the solar system. The planet's upper atmosphere is mostly covered by a haze of methane, which hides storms that occur in the clouds beneath it.
The orbit of Uranus around the Sun takes approximately 84 Earth years to complete one rotation. Due to its orientation, either one of Uranus' poles can receive direct sunlight for about 42 Earth years per orbit. The planet was first discovered in 1781 by Sir William Heschel. Uranus got its name from the ancient Greek deity Ouranos after a recommendation by the astronomer Johann Bode.
