What college degree should you get to become a security officer?

Security officers do not necessarily need formal education beyond obtaining a high school diploma; however, jobs that require a degree typically seek a college degree in criminal justice. In addition to a degree, some security officers may be required to obtain a state license in security.
Individuals seeking a position as a security guard may obtain a college degree in police science or criminal justice by taking coursework in criminal investigations, criminal procedures, criminology, cultural anthropology and juvenile justice. Associate degrees in criminal justice are available at many two-year community colleges, while a bachelor's degree must be obtained at a four-year university or college.
