What are some common breeds of swine?

American Landrace, American Yorkshire, Berkshire, Chester White and Duroc are common swine breeds. These breeds are suitable for 4H projects, market or slaughter. Other common swine breeds include Hampshire and Poland China.

American Landrace, American Yorkshire and Chester White are all white in color, making them susceptible to sunburn. American Landrace and Chester Whites have large drooping ears. American Yorkshire are large-framed and have erect ears. Berkshires are black with white points on all four legs, tails and snouts. This breed also has dished snouts and drooping ears. Durocs have a variety of colors, including light gold, yellow, dark red and brown.
