Common symptoms of lichen planus include purplish or flat-topped bumps, itching, blisters that form scabs, hair loss and nail damage, according to Mayo Clinic. Other symptoms include white spots or patches in or on the mouth, cheeks, gums, lips and tongue.
Lichen planus is a common skin rash that may be caused by the immune system, notes Healthline. It can affect people of any age, and while the factors that bring on reactions vary by patient, some triggers include viral infections, allergens, stress, genetics and autoimmune disorders. The condition is not contagious and can be treated with topical and oral medications and immune system suppressing drugs.
