The Philippines is a country that gained full independence from the United States in 1946. The country is located in the Pacific Ocean to the east of Vietnam. The Philippines is made up of over 7,000 islands, but the majority of its citizens live on only 11 of them.

The Philippines' citizens are ruled under a constitution that is similar to the United States' constitution. The country is still heavily influenced by religious and political practices of the United States. The Philippines is a democratic nation. A good portion of the land in the Philippines is mountainous. However, the country contains many beaches that attract tourists.
