The city of Tampa is the county seat and the largest city in Hillsborough County, Fla. According to Wikipedia, the 2010 Census determined that Hillsborough County had the fourth-largest population in Florida.
Hillsborough County was much larger in 1834 when it included eight other present-day counties. In 1849, the small village of Tampa was incorporated. Tampa is part of the Tampa Bay Area that includes the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Tampa overlooks Old Tampa Bay and Hillsborough Bay, both of which flow out into the Gulf of Mexico. Lithia Springs, the largest natural spring in Florida, and C. W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir are also located in Hillsborough County.
