According to the American Liver Foundation, Hepatitis C can be cured. WebMD defines being cured as not finding the virus in your blood six months after you stop taking medicine.
WebMD shares that not all treatments are the same for Hepatitis C, as there are varying types of the virus that require different medications or combinations of medications. In the early 1990s, two new drugs, interferon and ribavirin, were introduced into the market. Interferon boosts the immune system's response to fight off the Hepatitis C virus. Ribavirin is an antiviral. Since the introduction of these two drugs in the treatment of the virus, the cure rate jumped from 5 percent in the 1990s to 50 percent in the early 2000s.
