What currency does Portugal use?
By Forinfos - 21/06/2025 - 0 comments
Portugal uses the euro as its standard currency. A total of 13 European nations use euro notes and coins, which have a European graphic on one side and a national image on the other side. All 13 countries accept any form of the euro, regardless of where it originates.
Portugal's previous currency was the escudo, which is no longer accepted or in circulation. Individuals holding escudos can exchange them for euros until 2022. Portugal residents also refer to "conto," a unit that is equal to about 5 euros. The term does not refer to a currency, but it is used when discussing a large amount of money, such as a house price.
