The Jewish holiday of Sukkot starts on the 15th day of the Jewish month of Tishrei and lasts for seven days. The coinciding secular months are late September to late October.

In 2015, Sukkot falls between September 27 and October 4. It starts on October 16 in 2016 and on October 4 in 2017. The festival, also known as the Feast of Booths or Feast of Tabernacles, commemorates the Jewish journey through the desert to the Promised Land. Thanks for the fall harvest are given as part of the festival and many families construct their own sukkah: a booth symbolizing the huts the Israelis lived in during their Exodus from Egypt.
