What is the depth of the Amazon River?

The depth of the Amazon River ranges between 66 and 300 feet. The measurement depends on location, time of year and flood levels. By including the Pará river estuary as part of the Amazon, scientists have measured depths up to 330 feet.

The Amazon River makes up the world's largest river basin. It stretches 4,195 miles, from Lake Lauricocha in Peru to the Atlantic Ocean near Macapá, Brazil. The river includes more than 15,000 tributaries and subtributaries and discharges more than 8 trillion gallons of water per day. The rainforest surrounding the Amazon River houses more than one third of the world's plant and animal species.
