As of November 2015, Brenda Jones is the Detroit City Council President. She was elected to her position as President on January 6, 2014, after having served on the Council since 2005.
President Jones is an advocate for job development, entrepreneur support and neighborhood safety. She supports educational opportunities for youth and adults, and she partners with law enforcement to maintain safety within the neighborhoods she oversees.
It is her role to approve contracts submitted by the Mayor, review and approve the city budget and to approve settlement in civil litigation within Detroit. She represents the Detroit City Council on the Fire and Police Pension Board.
