Who won the New York City council election of 2013?

Of the 51 seats on the New York City Council, Republicans won three while Democrats won the remaining 48 in the November 2013 election. Persons with no prior service on the Council won 21 seats, including Carlos Menchaca and Antonio Reynoso, both of whom defeated incumbents in Brooklyn.

News reports described the city council's Progressive Caucus as the real winner of the 2013 elections. Prior to the election, the caucus had 11 members. Ten of those 11 members were re-elected to the council by voters, along with six caucus-endorsed candidates and four other new members known for views aligning themselves with the caucus.
