The Battle of Vincennes took place at Fort Sackville in Vincennes, Ind., in 1779 during the Revolutionary War. The battle ended in a victory for the American colonial forces.
The battle for the frontier fort in Vincennes was won by a massive bluff by Lieutenant Colonel George Rogers Clark. He tricked the British forces in the fort into believing he had over 600 men ready to lay siege to them; however, in reality he only had about 200 men. British Lieutenant Governor Henry Hamilton felt his defenses were futile in the face of such overwhelming force and therefore surrendered the fort.
