Where did the battle of Princeton take place?

The Battle of Princeton took place on Jan. 3, 1777 in Princeton, New Jersey. The conflict occurred when General George Washington and the Colonial army, fresh from its victory in the Battle of Trenton, attempted to evade the British army.

Washington routed his troops around the British army and moved north further into New Jersey instead of sailing back across the Delaware River. The British army, led by General Charles Cornwallis, mistakenly defended the Delaware River crossing while Washington's forces left quietly the other way. The colonial army ran into the rear of the British army and defeated them, forcing the British army to relinquish most of New Jersey to Washington.
