The cable entertainment network Bravo launched on December 1, 1980. It was acquired by the NBC cable network in December 2002.
Bravo is a cable channel that features original programming focused on pop culture, fashion, design, beauty and food. Some of its hit original programming includes "The Real Housewives" franchise of shows, "Top Chef," "Inside the Actor's Studio" and "The Millionaire Matchmaker." It is among the top 20 cable networks in the United States.
Despite its present focus on pop culture, Bravo's original focus was arts and culture. Although the network receives very high ratings, its shift has disappointed some culture critics, such as James Wolcott of Vanity Fair.
