When did Romulus die?

Romulus, the co-founder of Rome along with his brother Remus, went missing sometime during 717 B.C. and is presumed to have died around this time. The exact cause of his death is unknown, although there are many myths about how he died, according to Ancient History Encyclopedia.

One of the most common explanations for the death of Romulus is that he disappeared after being caught up in a storm. Some eyewitnesses claimed that the man ascended up to heaven to become a god. Others believe that Romulus was murdered in a plot by the Senate to acquire political power. It is not known how old Romulus was when he died, but the two most common possible ages quoted are 53 and 55.
