The Russian mountain dog, also known as the Caucasian shepherd dog, originates from the Caucasus Mountain region. The dog breed is used to protect sheep from predators in the harsh mountainous region.
The Russian mountain dog is very large compared to other dogs. It can grow from 25 to 28 inches in its 10- to 11-year lifetime. This dog breed has very strong family tendencies, protecting those that it regards as family ferociously. The Russian mountain dog is not well suited for small spaces or city life. Its size and ferocity require this dog to have as much space as possible.
