Qualifying for an unsecured MasterCard is difficult if the applicant doesn't have a high a credit score, reports Money Under 30. People with credit scores between 700 and 780 generally have a good chance of approval, while those with credit scores under 600 are less likely to qualify.

People with credit scores of 600 or lower apply for secured credit cards to boost their credit, explains NerdWallet. Secured cards typically have low credit limits and require the applicant to deposit sufficient cash to cover the credit limit up front. These cards have few restrictions regarding applicant qualification and sometimes transition into unsecured cards after the person establishes a good payment history.
