To disable the Ask Toolbar in Windows 7, uninstall it from the Programs and Features list that can be accessed via the Control Panel. Once the toolbar is removed, disable the Ask extension in Google Chrome, remove Ask from the search engine list, and reset the home page settings.
- Access the Programs and Features settings window
Click on the Start button, and select the Control Panel option. Click on the Programs link, and click on the Uninstall a Program option. If the Control Panel elements are listed as icons, click on Programs and Features immediately.
- Uninstall the Ask Toolbar
In the list of installed programs, click on Ask Toolbar, and click the Uninstall button. Follow the wizard's instructions to complete the uninstall process. If Ask Toolbar Updater or Ask Updater are also present on the list, repeat the same process to uninstall those programs as well.
- Disable the Ask extension in Google Chrome
Start Google Chrome, and click on the menu button in the top-right corner that is represented by three horizontal bars. Click on the Settings option in the drop-down menu. Click on Extensions, and navigate to the Ask Toolbar extension. Click on the trash bin icon next to the extension, and click on Remove to confirm the action.
- Remove Ask from the search engine list
In the Google Chrome settings window, click on Manage search engines, and click on the X button next to the Ask search engine.
- Reset the home page settings
In the settings window, click on the option labeled Open the New Tab page. Close the settings window to confirm the change.
