What is dolomite ceramic?

Dolomite ceramic is a glaze that is commonly used in pottery. Potters praise the material for giving their work a matte finish and smooth silky texture. In order for dolomite to fire properly and create an effective glaze, it must be mixed with an oxide.
Dolomite is a naturally-occurring mineral made up of calcium, magnesium and carbonate. It can be found in crystal form and is also the main component in a sedimentary rock of the same name. Dolomite has a number of uses besides ceramic glazes. It is also used in antacids, nutritional supplements containing magnesium and calcium, and as a component in cement.
