A draft curtain is made from a non-combustible material that helps prevent the spread of fire by directing smoke towards the ceiling vents. A draft curtain also reduces the risk of heat build up that can create lateral combustion of nearby materials.
Draft curtains increase visibility so that exits are easier to identify. They also reduce the risks of smoke inhalation, which is a major factor fire fatalities. In large buildings, smoke emitting from vents may help firefighters pinpoint the interior location of the blaze before entering the building, which saves time and helps prevent unnecessary damage. Draft curtains are most commonly used in airplane hangars, manufacturing plants and warehouses.
