Common street cars used in drag racing include the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. These cars are often high-performance variants of the base model, such as the Shelby GT500 Mustang or Challenger Hellcat, or are heavily modified from stock for racing purposes.

In addition to American muscle cars, exotic vehicles from manufacturers such as Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren are also used in street drag racing among more affluent racers, as are import cars such as the BMW M3, Nissan GT-R and Toyota Supra. The electric Tesla Model S has also been used for drag racing, as the nearly instant power delivery of its electric motors gives it an acceleration advantage over many other cars.
