Where is Duke University?

Duke University is in Durham, N.C. and has a marine laboratory in Beaufort. In Durham, there are three contiguous campuses, Main, East and West. East Campus is the original campus of the University and, as of 2014, serves as the school's freshman campus.

Duke University owns over 8,000 acres of land with slightly over 7,000 acres dedicated to Duke Forest. The forest is one of the largest private research forests in the United States and is the largest in North Carolina. The school began as a Quaker and Methodist school, became a part of the state educational system for a few years and reverted to the Methodists before becoming a private research university, with funding primarily from the Duke family.
