What is a dwarf lionfish?

The fuzzy dwarf lionfish is a species of the Scorpaenidae family native to the waters of Africa and Indonesia. A popular aquarium fish, it bears red, white and black vertical stripes and is named for the fullness of its tall, quill-like dorsal fins and fan-like pectoral fins.
Reaching up to 7 inches in length, the dwarf lionfish requires a tank of at least 50 gallons with plenty of hiding places. While they are peaceful tankmates, smaller fish that might be considered a food source should be avoided. Saltwater feeder shrimp are used to acclimate the fish to new environments, followed by a diet of live shrimp and fish and crustacean flesh.
