Among the creatures that eat algae are some kinds of turtles and fish. Aquatic invertebrates, such as limpets, and some species of crab and shrimp also consume algae.
The algae-eating striped mud turtle is found in swamps, ponds, drainage canals and wet meadows in the Southeastern United States. The golden shiner, which is a relative of the minnow, also eats algae. It is found in slow waters in North America.
A limpet is a marine snail that scrapes algae from rocks. The mud fiddler crab, which inhabits salt marshes on the East Coast of the United States, eats algae and other plants. The brown shrimp feeds on algae at night.
