The M44 is a Mosin-Nagant rifle, one of a series of bolt-action military rifles used by the Soviet Union and the Russian Empire between 1891 and the present. The M44 was a standard-issue weapon for Russian infantry from 1944 to 1949.
The rifle holds five cartridges that are fed by an internal magazine that takes 7.62x54R shells. It has a 20-inch barrel and a 15-inch folding bayonet affixed to the side. The Mosin-Nagant corporate website estimates that around 7 million M44 rifles were produced over a period of six years, making it a relatively common gun, as of 2014.
