What is an exercise science degree?

An exercise science degree focuses on the science of human movement. Those who earn this degree can go on to help people achieve healthier lives though exercise and nutrition. An example of a college with an exercise science program is Towson University in Maryland.

Exercise science developed out of the 19th century physical-culture movement when the working class learned to improve their health through sports and dance. Students of exercise science learn about the human body and how injuries and diets affect it. Examples of classes that students may take include Physiology of Exercise, Psychology of Sport Injury and Biomechanics.
