Whose face is on the 50-cent coin?

The face of President John F. Kennedy appears on the 50-cent coin as of 1964. The move to put President Kennedy's face on the coin came about quickly after his assassination in November 1963.

In addition to Kennedy's likeness, the obverse of the coin also contains the words "Liberty" and "In God We Trust," as well as the year the coin was minted. The reverse of the coin features the U.S. Presidential Seal in the midst of 50 stars. The words "United States of America" and "Half Dollar" are inscribed on the reverse of the coin, as well. The 50-cent coin is made from a mixture of copper and nickel, no longer containing silver as it once did.
