How fast can a Canary Island date palm grow?

A well-tended Canary Island date palm can reach a height of 8 feet in 10 years. It may take decades, though, for one of these slow-growing trees to reach its full height of 60 feet or more.
In its first year, a Canary Island date palm grows only 9 to 12 inches. Four years later, it stands, on average, between 4 and 5 feet high. Its long, bushy fronds can grow to 15 feet in length. The trunk grows wide as well, so it is a good idea to plant young date palms away from sidewalks and pathways in fertile soil where they can receive full sun. The Canary Island date palm is a part of the fruit-bearing date palm family, though it bears no fruit of its own.
