Macy’s opened its first location as an upscale dry goods store at the corner of 14th Street and 6th Avenue in New York City. Between 1858 and 1877, Macy’s evolved into a full department store, expanding its product lines and growing to encompass a total of 11 buildings.

Macy’s relocated to its Herald Square location at 34th Street and Broadway Avenue in 1902, and it expanded to become the world's largest store in 1924. Macy's is renowned for several unique retail innovations, including a one-price system for all customers, money-back guarantees, window displays and the first promotion of a woman to an executive position.
