What is the food handlers' test?

The food handler's test is an exam given after completing a food handler's safety course. This test is given to determine whether the information in the course has been retained enough to use in everyday situations.

A food handler's course is taken by employees who work in the service industry. A local health department can require that any employee who comes in contact with food served to the public must have a food safety card. This is the card issued to the employee once she has completed the course and passed the test. Among other food safety topics, this course covers cross contamination, temperature control and personal hygiene.
