The Iroquois ate foods such as hickory nuts, butternuts, roots and wild meat. The Iroquois were farmers first with hunting and fishing skills.
The food the Iroquois most likely ate the most was corn because it was their most important crop. They cooked the corn down to make porridge and often mixed it with beans or vegetables. The dried corn kernels were ground down into flour to make bread. Squash and pumpkins were made in to strips, dried out and eaten during the long winter. They also caught an abundance of fish. Food they also enjoyed included berries, acorns and chestnuts.
