Canoes as long as 30 feet carried up to 18 people and their supplies on long fishing journeys in the Atlantic Ocean as well as in local rivers, streams and lakes. When snow fell in the winter months, the Iroquois used sleds and snowshoes to traverse the rugged terrain.
