Ford recalled vehicles equipped with its 6-liter diesel engines made between 2004 and 2005 due to reported incidents of these engines stalling while driving. This applied to 180,000 of its E-350 and E-450 vans, F-250 through F-550 Super Duty trucks and its Excursion sport utility vehicle.
Ford dealerships were required to upgrade or replace the fuel injection control module wire harnesses or replace the injection control pressure sensor connector for these models. Ford realized a $12.7 billion loss because of the recalls. A few years later, Ford was forced to recall its 2008 F-Series Super Duty trucks with 6.4-liter diesel engines because of reported tailpipe fires.
