Do foxes eat house cats?

Foxes sometimes prey on domestic cats. Other predators known to attack and eat domestic cats include coyotes, larger cat species, bears, fishers, alligators, dogs, snakes and birds of prey.

Domestic cats encounter many hazards besides predators when allowed to roam outdoors. These include cars, poisons, human cruelty and exposure to disease and parasites. Cats allowed to roam outside are also more likely to be injured by other cats. Because of these dangers, outdoor cats have a life expectancy of 2 to 5 years compared to up to 17 for indoor cats. The American Veterinary Medical Association recommends that cats be kept indoors for their own health and safety.
