What is a gable attic fan?

A gable attic fan is a ventilation fan installed in the flat walls of the attic near the roofline to replace hot, stale air in the space with cooler air from outside. The home requires additional vents to allow the cool air to enter the attic.
Lowering the attic temperature reduces heat infiltration into the living space, thus reducing the energy required for cooling the home. These fans include a temperature sensor. When the air temperature reaches the set point, the fan activates. The force of the air exiting the attic opens the shutter. When the temperature reaches the lower limit, the fan stops blowing and the shutter closes to prevent rain and wind from entering the space.
