Broadcast journalist Gayle King remains unmarried following her divorce from Connecticut prosecutor William Bumpus, as of 2015. The marriage lasted a decade, and the pair shares two adult children: son Will and daughter Kirby. The divorce was final in 1993.

Despite a lengthy career in broadcasting, King's biggest claim to fame is her role as Oprah Winfrey's best friend. The two met in Baltimore in the 1970s at the television station where they both worked. Since that first meeting, they have collaborated professionally on numerous occasions. They socialize together and have also taken many joint vacations, including a camping trip to Yosemite National Park.
