Trick-or-treating times generally range from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with most children participating between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. However, some cities may have different regulations. Some parents choose to take their children after dinner around dusk at 6:30 p.m. or 7 p.m.

Sixty-five percent of American children claimed that Halloween was their favorite holiday in 2012, with trick-or treating, wearing costumes and getting candy as their reasoning. Two-thirds of surveyed children admitted in an American Dental Association survey that they eat too much candy on Halloween. Some dentists in the United States collect candy on the day after Halloween and send it to troops overseas as part of Operation Gratitude.
